Lok Sabha Polls 2019 Phase 2 Sees Voting For 95 Seats

Voting was held in 38 of the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu.

The Lok Sabha Polls 2019 Phase 2 was held in 95 Lok Sabha seats on Thursday. Polling was held in 11 states including Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

In Tamil Nadu, elections were held for 38 of the state’s 39 Lok Sabha seats. Polling for the Vellore seat was cancelled by the Election Commission of India on Tuesday after the seizure of a large amount of cash allegedly from an associate of a DMK leader.

Bypolls were also held for 18 assembly segments in the state. Superstar Rajinikanth, and actor-turned-politician Kamal Hasan were among those who voted in state capital Chennai.

Lok Sabha Polls 2019 Phase 2

Karnataka voted for 14 of the state’s 28 Lok Sabha seats in the second phase while Puducherry and Manipur saw elections for one Parliamentary constituency each.

The Lok Sabha Polls 2019 Phase 2 saw polling for 10 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, eight in Uttar Pradesh, and five each in Assam, Bihar and Odisha. West Bengal and Chhattisgarh saw voting for three seats each while Jammu and Kashmir voted for two Lok Sabha constituencies.

In Odisha, voting was also held for 35 assembly constituencies. The first phase of polling on 11 April saw Odisha vote for four of the state’s Lok Sabha seats and 28 of its 147 assembly seats.

India is voting for the General Elections 2019 in seven phases between 11 April and 19 May. Counting for all the seats will be taken up on 23 May.

High Profile Contests In Lok Sabha Polls 2019 Phase 2

The prominent candidates whose constituencies went to polls during the Lok Sabha Polls 2019 Phase 2 on Thursday were:

  • Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Deve Gowda (Tumkuru, Karnataka)
  • Popular Bollywood actor and sitting BJP MP Hema Malini (Mathura, Uttar Pradesh)
  • National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah (Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir)
  • Kanimozhi Karunanidhi of the DMK (Thoothukkudi, Tamil Nadu)
  • Sitting Congress MP Sushmita Dev (Silchar, Assam)
