The wall got its fame from the scene in 3 idiots where the character Chatur (played by Omi Vaidya) tries to urinate on it wall but gets electrocuted by an ingenious invention of school children.

It became a tourist attraction when the school painted it as the ‘Rancho Wall’, named after the film’s main character, Ranchoddas Shamaldas Chanchad, played by Aamir Khan.

According to the Tourism Reception Centre in Leh, there has been a growth of 30% in the annual arrival of total tourists after the release of the movie. Since 2014, over 5,50,000 tourists have visited Ladakh, out of which around 4,40,000 were domestic and 1,25,000 were foreign tourists.
