Perpetrators of the Pulwama terror attack act in Jammu and Kashmir will be punished and security forces have been given a free hand to act, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday.
In a stern warning a day after the attack left at least 38 CRPF personnel dead, Modi warned the terror outfits and those aiding and abetting them that they had made a big mistake.
“They will have to pay a very heavy price for their actions,” he said while addressing a public gathering before flagging of the Vande Bharat Express between New Delhi and Varanasi.
We have given full freedom to the security forces. We have full faith in the bravery and valour of our security forces.
– PM Narendra Modi
The Prime Minister expressed hope that “the patriotic fervour will ensure that people will provide correct information to our agencies so that we can intensify our efforts to crush terror”.
Reports said that five men had been detained after raids were conducted in several villages in Pulwama district after the attack.
The Pulwama Terror Attack
In what has been described as the worst terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir in three decades, a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber rammed a car loaded with explosives into a truck that was part of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy on Thursday afternoon.
The bus was mangled beyond recognition following the high-intensity explosion; while at least 38 personnel were killed, many others were injured.
The convoy of over 70 vehicles was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar when it was attacked 30 km from Srinagar. Pakistan-backed terror outfit JeM claimed responsibility for the attack.
Shortly after the attack, a video clip of Dar carrying a weapon began doing the rounds of social media in Kashmir.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, Dar is a 22-year-old school dropout from Gundibagh village in south Kashmir’s insurgency hotbed of Pulwama district. The village is hardly 10 kms from the spot where he carried out the attack.
“We Will Not Forget, We Will Not Forgive”
All formations of the CRPF observed two minutes silence in memory of the personnel killed in the Pulwama terror attack. The CRPF flag also flew at half mast.
“We salute our martyrs of Pulwama attack and stand with the families of our martyr brothers. This heinous attack will be avenged,” CRPF said on Twitter.
