Pulwama Terror Attack: Security Forces Given A Free Hand, Says PM Modi

The attack is the worst terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir in three decades.

Perpetrators of the Pulwama terror attack act in Jammu and Kashmir will be punished and security forces have been given a free hand to act, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday.

In a stern warning a day after the attack left at least 38 CRPF personnel dead, Modi warned the terror outfits and those aiding and abetting them that they had made a big mistake.

“They will have to pay a very heavy price for their actions,” he said while addressing a public gathering before flagging of the Vande Bharat Express between New Delhi and Varanasi.

We have given full freedom to the security forces. We have full faith in the bravery and valour of our security forces.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that “the patriotic fervour will ensure that people will provide correct information to our agencies so that we can intensify our efforts to crush terror”.

Reports said that five men had been detained after raids were conducted in several villages in Pulwama district after the attack.

The Pulwama Terror Attack

In what has been described as the worst terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir in three decades, a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber rammed a car loaded with explosives into a truck that was part of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy on Thursday afternoon.

The bus was mangled beyond recognition following the high-intensity explosion; while at least 38 personnel were killed, many others were injured.

The convoy of over 70 vehicles was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar when it was attacked 30 km from Srinagar. Pakistan-backed terror outfit JeM claimed responsibility for the attack.

Shortly after the attack, a video clip of Dar carrying a weapon began doing the rounds of social media in Kashmir.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, Dar is a 22-year-old school dropout from Gundibagh village in south Kashmir’s insurgency hotbed of Pulwama district. The village is hardly 10 kms from the spot where he carried out the attack.

“We Will Not Forget, We Will Not Forgive”

All formations of the CRPF observed two minutes silence in memory of the personnel killed in the Pulwama terror attack. The CRPF flag also flew at half mast.

“We salute our martyrs of Pulwama attack and stand with the families of our martyr brothers. This heinous attack will be avenged,” CRPF said on Twitter.

Cabinet Committee On Security Meets

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired by the Prime Minister met on Friday morning for a detailed assessment of the Pulwama terror attack.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that all possible steps would be taken isolate Pakistan internationally for its direct involvement. Steps would also be initiated to revoke the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status to the country.

Nation Mourns In Anger

PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter to condemn the attack in Pulwama.

He further tweeted to inform that he had spoken to the Home Minister, Rajnath Singh and top officials regarding the situation in the wake of the attack.

Other politicians like INC President Rahul Gandhi, Amit Shah and Arun Jaitley also offered their condolences through the micro-blogging site.

Rahul Gandhi also said that he and his party would support the government.

Jaitley, who resumed charge as Finance Minister on Friday, stated that the perpetrators of the act of terrorism at Pulwama would have to pay a heavy cost for their actions.

Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh requested the state to respond to the situation.

Captain of the Indian cricket team Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman also tweeted about the Pulwama terror attack.

Bollywood celebrities paid tribute to the martyrs and injured soldiers.
