  • New Indian passports will no longer have the last page with details like the address, parents’ and spouse’s name. They will also come in two colours, orange (for Emigration Check Required) and the existing blue (for Emigration Check Not Required) – 13 January
  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launches its 100th satellite, a Cartosat-2 Series earth observation craft. It was launched using the PSLV-C40, marking the 42nd flight of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) – 12 January
  • National Youth Day is celebrated throughout India to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, inaugurates the celebrations and addresses the audience via two video conferences – 12 January
  • In unprecedented move, four senior Judges of the Supreme Court of India hold a press conference, questioning the manner in which the Chief Justice is administering the apex court – 12 January
  • Social media giant Facebook decides that the news feed of its users will give greater priority to “more meaningful social interactions’; says posts from businesses, brands, and media houses will appear less prominently – 12 January
  • India will reclaim its position as the fastest growing major world economy in 2018-19, says the World Bank’s Global Economic Prospects report. India’s growth is expected to accelerate to about 7.3% , compared to China’s 6.4% growth – 10 January
  • Board Exam Dates 2018 For Class 10, 12 are announced by CBSE and ICSE. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations will begin from 5 March, whereas, the ICSE and the ICS examination will begin from 27 February and 7 February respectively – 10 January
  • Aanchal Thakur creates history by winnings India’s first-ever international skiing medal. The 21-year-old wins the bronze medal in the slalom race category at the Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup in Turkey – 9 January
  • The fastest Indian Supercomputer, Pratyush, is launched in Pune, to improve the quality of Met forecasts. With a peak power of 6.8 petaflops, this is also the country’s first multi-petaflop computer – 8 January
  • The results of CAT 2017 are announced by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow. This year the top 20 list contains two female candidates and three non-engineers – 8 January
