Asian Para Games 2018: India Win Gold Medals In Athletics, Swimming

India have won a total of 16 medals at the games till Monday.

India put up a good show in athletics at the Asian Para Games 2018, winning two gold medals and two silver medals on Monday.

The swimmers are also doing well and have won one gold medal, one silver medal, and three bronze medals so far.

Javelin thrower Sandeep Chaudhary won India’s first gold medal at the event. He topped the men’s F42-44/61-64 category with a best throw of 60.01 m in his third attempt.

Raju Rakshitha won the gold medal in the women’s 1,500 m category in athletics later in the day. Radha Venkatesh won the silver medal in the event. Ramya Nagaranai Shanmugam won a silver medal in the women’s javelin throw.

In swimming, Suyash Narayan Jadhav won the gold medal in the men’s 50 m butterfly S7 category. This was his third medal overall.

Swapnil Sanjay  Patil won the bronze in the men’s 100 m freestyle S10 event.

Devanshi Satija won bronze in the women’s 100 m freestyle S10 event.

In para shooting, Manish Narwal and Singhraj won silver and bronze medals respectively; Sakina Khatun bagged a silver medal in powerlifting.

India have won a total of 16 medals at the games till Monday – three gold, six silver and seven bronze medals.

The third Asian Para Games being held in Jakarta, Indonesia, began on 6 October and will conclude on 13 October.

India At The Asian Para Games 2018

India clinched total six medals, two silver and four bronze medals at the Games on the opening day on Sunday. The first medal, a bronze, was bagged by the Indian men’s badminton team in the men’s SL3-SU5 category.

Farman Basha bagged the silver medal in the 49 kg men’s power lifting event by lifting 128 kg. Paramjeet Kumar stood at third position by lifting 127 kg.

Devanshi Satija brought a silver medal for the country in swimming in the women’s 100 metre butterfly in S10 category.

Swimmer Suyash Jadhav got two bronze medals in the men’s 200 metre individual medley SM7 and the men’s 50 metre freestyle F7 categories.

Visually impaired Prachurya Kumar Pradhan defeated his opponent in less than 15 minutes in Chess. The player underwent a week-long training camp in preparation for the Games.

Jakarta Asian Para Games 2018

The ongoing games are taking place in the multi-purpose Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in central Jakarta, Indonesia. The official mascot of the 2018 Asian Para Games is a Bondol eagle named Momo representing motivation and mobility.

About 3,000 athletes from 43 countries are participating in 18 sports events consisting of 15 paralympic and and 3 non-paralympic sports.

The 15 paralympic sports for the Games include archery, athletics, badminton, chess, cycling, judo, powerlifting, shooting, swimming and table tennis. Three non-paralympic sports to be held are wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing and wheelchair tennis.

In the 2014 Para Asian Games, India had won 33 medals, including 3 gold, 14 silver and 16 bronze medals.
