Unstoppable! Schoolgirl Manu Bhaker Wins Second Gold Medal At Shooting World Cup

The Haryana shooter’s second gold medal came in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event.

You simply can’t keep her away from the limelight! A day after winning her first international shooting gold, 16-year-old Manu Bhaker has added one more to her kitty at the ISSF Shooting World Cup being held in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Pairing with Om Prakash Mitharwal, she powered India to the gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event on Monday.

The schoolgirl from Haryana had won the gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol Women’s event on Sunday, beating experienced shooter and home favourite Alejandra Zala Vazquez.

She could end up being the youngest Indian to win an international shooting gold medal though there is no official word yet.

This was a remarkable feat for somebody making her debut in the senior Shooting World Cup, more so since she took up shooting as a serious sport barely two years ago.

Impressive Medals Tally

India have three gold medals, including the 10m Men’s Air Pistol gold won by Shahzar Rizvi, and a total tally of seven medals, at the Shooting World Cup.

India’s Mehuli Ghosh and Deepak Kumar won the bronze medal in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event. Ghosh had earlier won the bronze medal in the 10m Air Rifle Women’s event.

Former India hockey team captain Viren Raisquinha, who is part of an organization that nurtures potential champions, was full of praise for Manu Bhaker and Mehuli Ghosh.

From Khelo India To World Fame

Manu Bhaker had burst onto the national consciousness during the Khelo India School Games held in New Delhi in January-February this year. The school student from Jhajjar, Haryana, won the gold medal in the Girls’ 10m Air Pistol event.

Last year, she had clinched the top spot at the national shooting meet, edging past some well-known names.

Interestingly, shooting was not her first sport. She had initially tried her hand at boxing and martial arts.
